From four to six months of age, mother's milk contains sufficient amount of all the nutrients that help the baby's physical growth. At four months many babies are not satisfied with milk alone. Besides, if you are not used to other foods from this time, suddenly after the age of five-six months, it becomes difficult to feed additional complementary foods to meet the physical growth needs of the baby. By four months of age, babies usually eat every four hours and do not need food after midnight. At this time, the new food should be started in the amount of one tea spoon while feeding the lunch.

How to introduce new foods:

a) At lunch time a little milk should be fed first. Then 1 teaspoon of fruit juice or mashed ripe banana should be given. Then milk should be fed again.

b) Try a new product every 4 to 5 days.

c) At this age the baby cannot chew, he has to suck – so he is soft Give food so he can suck.

Generally, at the age of five months, babies do not have teeth, so they should be fed soft, balanced food. At this age the child acquires taste through licking.

At this age, food is thrown away like spitting while eating. Dual mixed food such as semolina, paish and khichuri should be started little by little. The amount of food should be increased every day in such a way that in a few days this double mixed food is fed instead of a single meal of milk. It is better to practice eating this food around 10 am.


At the age of six months, you should start feeding soft rice with egg yolk. It is better to make a habit of feeding rice instead of milk at noon. Besides, at this age, yogurt, soup, cheese, and juice of tomato, lemon, pineapple, orange etc. and ripe papaya and mango should be practiced in the afternoon. At this age, the child tends to feed himself. So banana pieces, bread pieces or biscuits can be given in his hand.

At the age of seven months, the baby should be fed with boiled and mashed soft rice like fish, baby chicken, lentils, dark green vegetables, sweet pumpkin, potatoes etc. Many children like to eat peaches and spinach at this age. At this age, boiled carrots and boiled potatoes can be given to the child.

By the age of eight months, the baby gets used to solid food at noon and snack in the afternoon. Grinding food should be stopped at this time. Pudding can be added to the menu. A piece of meat can be given to the child.

At the age of nine months, babies develop tastes or preferences for food. As a result, many children's food needs are reduced. Then try to give new taste and ingredients. But the child must have two solid meals and one snack.

At the age of 10 months, the baby should start eating solid food three times a day. Babies at this age take 20 to 45 minutes to eat each meal. At this age, the child should be allowed to eat independently and should be helped to finish eating. Cup or bowl feeding should be taught.

In the eleventh month, the child has to try to re-feed all the foods that he disliked earlier. At this age the child can get used to having three solid meals ie semolina / paish / cereal at 10 am, rice at noon and rice at night. When the baby is one year old, he likes to eat together with everyone. In addition, at this age, he can eat adult food. In addition to well-chopped and boiled meat, one can eat boiled beans/beans/peas.
